Are You Living a Legacy Worth Leaving?

What is legacy?
Is it money? Property? Stocks and bonds? A business?
Yes. But it’s also so much more.

Legacy is values. Culture. Traditions. Stories. Lessons learned.

A family legacy is like a road map of where you’ve been—where your people came from, what they endured, and the joys and challenges they faced along the way. It holds the obstacles and the opportunities.

So let’s ask the question: Are you living a legacy worth leaving?

Inheritance is far greater than money, things, or collections. You can inherit work ethic, goal setting, and drive. You can inherit values, a conscious collection of memories, and stories that echo across generations. These become guiding lights, inspiring your future family to rise up in the face of challenge or to stand against tyranny.

No one alive today signed the Declaration of Independence or fought in the Civil War. Yet you and I have inherited the legacy of freedom—independence and equality. That’s the power of legacy.

So again, are you living a legacy worth leaving?

Be intentional. Be aware of what you do and say—especially when no one is watching. Steve Jobs once said that a brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room. The same is true of legacy.

You may command a ship, but not respect.

You may be the CEO of your town’s largest employer, and yet behind your back people whisper about your shortcomings.
You may hold titles, but act without honor.
You may be a loving man, but also a cruel father.

At the reading of your will, will anyone care? Will anyone show up beyond those with a hand out?

Legacy isn’t limited to property. Legacy is defined by who you become, who you are, and who you impact.

And if you’re not sure how to answer the question—Am I living a legacy worth remembering?—the good news is, you can start anew.

Can you start over? Absolutely.
Where? Here. Right here.
When? Right now.

This is your moment. This is the day to declare:
I’m living on purpose and with a purpose.

Today is the day to prosper in well-doing, to be purposeful in all that you do. The impact you make will be felt for generations.

-Make it count.
-Make it matter.

Because you matter—and you were born to live on purpose.

I asked myself this very same question. My answer?

My grandson, Kai, asked me a very powerful question of his own: “Pappa, can I become a millionaire?”

That one question lead me on a year long journey of writing what became, The Schoolyard Millionaire - The Wheel of Life and Wealth. It’s a book that I wrote for exactly four people in my life, Austin, Nevaeh, Kai and William. My grandkids. Somewhere along the way it made sense to publish the story and share with your grandkids too, if you’d like. Grab a copy or ten now!

Wishing you and yours all the best!

Chris
